January 25, 2010
Dear
parent/guardian,
The Robichaud administrative team strives to maintain a
safe and orderly environment for both students and staff. Recently, we have
observed an increase in the number of students in the hallways during
instructional time as well as the number of students without an ID card. These
behaviors are counterproductive to the school environment we choose to
maintain. As a result, effective February 1, 2010, all students will be
required to have a Robichaud High School ID card
to ride the school bus as well as to enter the school building.
Students without an ID card will have to purchase a replacement card at the
price of $5. Additionally, all students must be in class during instructional
time. Students loitering in the hallways will be disciplined according to the
Robichaud High School student handbook.
Additionally, our policy for unauthorized absences will be strictly enforced.
The policy may be found on pages 14-16 of the Robichaud student handbook. Below
are the pertinent sections:
DISTRICT POLICY – The current
policy adopted by Westwood Community School
District Board of Education states:
Students who accumulate more than a
total of (12) absences in a trimester (absolute maximum of excused
or combination of excused/unexcused) will lose credit for those classes.
Students will not be withdrawn from those classes and must continue to attend
until the end of the trimester.
On a student’s eighth (8th)
absence, the student will be required to achieve at least a C- on the final
exam, as well as pass the class, to have his/her grade calculated for the term.
If the student does not attain a C- on the final exam, the student will receive
no credit for the term.
Extenuating circumstances of a
medical nature (such as a serious or extended illness or injury), upon receipt
of documentation from the doctor in charge, will be considered. Medical excuses
must be turned in within 2 days (48 hours) of the date(s) of the absence(s).
This documentation must contain a diagnosis of the illness and the specific
dates that the student could not be in school. Details may be obtained from the
student’s counselor or the assistant principal/principal.
Absences not calculated in the
twelve (12) absence procedure include:
·
Suspensions imposed by a school administrator
·
School-related absences (i.e. field trips)
·
Absences due to a death in the immediate family
As difficult as it is, and it is sometimes very
difficult, we will continue to enforce our stated policy.
Please do what you can to be sure your
youngsters understand our rules at school. Also, please remember that we are
attempting to provide a safe and sound educational environment for your child.
Such an environment has no place for students who either cannot or will not
comply with reasonable rules of order and discipline. If you agree with us and
will sustain our position, we will have taken one more step toward helping
students achieve a healthy and happy adult life. If you have any questions about
our schools’ disciplinary rules and regulations, feel free to contact us at your
convenience.
Your help, cooperation, and support of
Robichaud High School in these matters of discipline will be greatly
appreciated.
Educationally
yours,
Kellie
Cunningham, Principal
